Dr Sarah AtkinsonHi, I’m Sarah. Within my NHS role I work as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within a specialist forensic adolescent service. I have experience of undertaking psychological assessment, formulation and interventions using a range of theoretical models and approaches, working across the lifespan and with a range of presentations. Using a holistic, collaborative, and strengths-based approach is important to all of my work. I value working with the systems around a young person, including families, local authorities, and external agencies.

I offer therapeutic input to young people regarding a range of psychological, emotional and relational difficulties. I am integrative in my approach, mainly drawing on attachment and trauma-informed frameworks, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) informed approaches. I have completed additional training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and I am currently undertaking Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner training.

I have experience of carrying out assessments regarding cognitive functioning, autism, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as part of a multidisciplinary team. I also have experience of undertaking specialist risk assessments, including violence and harmful sexual behaviour.

I am registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist (PYL38708).

When not at work, I love spending time outdoors my two sprocker spaniels (Harry and Hamish).
