Steve ClarkeI am an accredited psychotherapist in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT psychotherapist), and an accredited CAT supervisor. I was also a member of the core training team on the Newcastle CAT practitioner training course across five cohorts.

I have over 25 years of experience in providing psychotherapy to individuals with diverse mental health issues within the NHS, and over five years’ experience offering consultation in private practice.

I have additional experience and training in various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) which I can draw upon, if necessary, to offer within a CAT framework.

My professional background is in nursing, registered nurse (Adult) (RGN) and registered nurse (Mental Health) (RMN).

CAT is a time conscious therapy, typically 16-24 sessions, but can be adjusted to more, or less. It holds a problem focus and draws upon a co-construction of ‘tools’ in the form of letters and diagrams to bring some structure and creativity to the therapy. I believe, the therapeutic relationship to be crucial in psychotherapy as it fosters trust, safety, and collaboration between the therapist and client. The ‘journey’ to grow that therapeutic bond enhances engagement, facilitates deeper self-exploration, and promotes positive change, ultimately leading to more effective and lasting therapeutic outcomes. I find the therapeutic relationship creates an opportunity to explore relational wounds through moments in the therapy that may well touch upon relationship struggles in everyday life.

I am a member of the Association for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) and adhere to its Code of Ethics and Practice. I regularly participate in supervision with a CAT supervisor and engage in continuing professional development to maintain high standards of practice. My experience includes working with people who have struggles with anxiety, depression, relationship issues (including the relationship with oneself), and people having experienced trauma in relationships as a child, or later in life, that may now affect their relationships with others, or themselves.

I work on Thursday afternoons and evenings.

I can offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss your therapy aims and needs.
